If you are Designing The Future for the companies with whom you consult, one of the best places to start is with your own personal research and experimentation.
Dean has created multiple experiments and personal projects that help to inform his ongoing research, understanding, thoughts and theories.
If you have seen Dean speaking at an event previously, you may have seen him dressed in his XR Immersion Suit, combining full body haptics with bionic enhancements with full AR and VR Capability. His suit explores the potential of full immersion and its use cases for medical research, Industry 4.0 and training across multiple industries including enterprise, military, sport and many others.
Not only does the Immersion Suit demonstrate the potential of combining technologies for designing the future, it also provides conferences and companies with a show-stopping visual experience complete with shooting fireballs.
As someone who is regularly invited to explore the possibility of multiple realities both within the boardroom and on conference stages, Dean explored and pushed the boundaries of reality by spending 48 hours in VR, continuously.
During this time, he tested full body interaction by racing a go-cart and being strapped to the top wing of a bi-plane. He fell asleep and woke up in Virtual Reality to test mental awareness and explored the effects of pain mitigation by having a tattoo whilst wearing a headset. During his two days of research, Dean’s aim was to make a virtual experience as physical as possible.
“I’d rather apologise for something awesome than ask permission for something lame" were the closing words of his TEDx Talk in Athens.
Dean is continuously working with companies to deliver ‘awesome’ – that thing that makes them that little bit better than the next brand.
At this event in Athens broadcast to thousands, Dean co–created with the live audience by turning each attendee into a pixel as part of a 4D light show to illustrate disruption and engagement. This created an impactful four dimensional story that put human beings at the centre of the technology, making them the focus of the story he was telling. Dean continuously researches human interaction with technology as he believes it is the driving force of a tomorrow mindset company.
Dean is regularly sent new and emerging technologies to test, research and give his opinion both privately or publicly. Very often this helps to inform his research, ideas and journalistic viewpoints.
